Welcome To The Great Horsetrailriders MICHIGAN Distance Derby!
I created the Michigan Distance Derby (MDD) after participating in the Distance Derby that has competitors from all over the United States. The purpose of the Derby is to encourage you to get out & ride or drive. Any equine, any time, any speed!
The idea is simple. Riders & Drivers sign-up & using their GPS (required equipment - many smartphones have apps that work), record their mileage. They submit mileage weekly to this site & compete "VIRTUALLY" with other teams entered in The Derby.
The person with the most miles at the end of the year, wins!

The process of tracking our small steps contributed to our making milestones I will never forget! It was a remarkable journey having ridden well over 1,000 miles & visisted over 31 trail systems across The Great State of Michigan.
Having shared our adventures through Facebook, friends made across the state whilst riding became increasingly interested in participating. Given the limited number of competitor positions, we were encouraged to create our own Statewide Derby. So, I did just that in order to encourage Michiganders to RIDE ON!
The Derby is meant to be fun and encouraging. And, yes, it is a game! But like the Endurance Community says, "Ride your own race!" So the competition is meant to be earnest & good hearted! We have kept most of the same rules as the Original DD and given this is an entirely volunteer endeavor also have to limit our competitor positions. We are limited this year to 100 Competitor Positions.
We aim to have a wide array of trail riders participate! We welcome all disciplines & pride ourselves on making certain the community supports one another. We intend to be a drama free virtual & when proximity allows, personal community. So, we do not allow bullying or discrimination of any kind on our comments or posts. And hope such kindness permeates all our activities & rides! Afterall, our main concerns are our trusty steeds & they benefit from a positive attitude!

ReplyDeleteHi, Just a note to say that I will not be posting mileage to the Derby. If someone is on a waiting list you can replace me. I am riding but not enough to take up space. It is a great idea though.
